Megan and Lee tied the knot with a classic romantic wedding on a sunny spring afternoon at The Bell Tower.
This sweet pair met on a college graduation trip six years ago in 2013 when Lee graduated from Ohio State and Megan from Auburn University.
When alumni from their colleges were grouped together for a sixteen-day tour of Europe, fate stepped in. The two met on the first night and immediately hit it off.
After the trip, the two continued talking while Megan had plans to study clinical child psychology at Southern Illinois University and Lee had one more semester left at Ohio State. Although Lee was a mechanical engineering major, he enrolled in an introduction to psychology course that fall. "Wonder who he was trying to impress?" Megan told us.
While living 7 hours apart, they began a relationship which quickly blossomed into love. After countless FaceTime calls, hours of talking on the phone and many long trips to visit each other, they finally both moved to Madison, Wis., in 2018! Little did Megan know, Lee had big plans for them.
Just before the move, the two were visiting Madison to sign leases and check out their new city. After a busy morning of brunching, record store shopping and lease signing, Lee suggested they return to the hotel to figure out a plan for the rest of the day.
When Megan opened their hotel door, she was shocked to find the room decorated with dozens of photos of them, gifts and letters she had given to Lee through the years, and a huge map with pictures marking all the places they had visited together during their long-distance years.
After standing speechless for a few seconds — Lee would argue that it felt like hours — Megan turned around to find him down on one knee.
"He had been planning the proposal for weeks in advance and was in cahoots with the hotel staff!" Megan told us.
She said yes and they celebrated with champagne, chocolate truffles and wine from 2013, the year they met.
For their big day, this sweet pair chose The Bell Tower because of the beauty of its architecture. "We were impressed by its history as a former church and knew that it would serve as a romantic venue for our wedding," Megan said.
Since it was most important to the couple that their ceremony be romantic, that's just what we made it!
A rustic rectangular arch covered in greenery by Forget Me Not Designs framed the couple as they exchanged their self-written vows, also Megan's most memorable moment of the day. "Lots of happy tears!" Megan told us.
After the ceremony, guests noshed on southern favorites including mini fried chicken and waffles, fried green tomatoes, and cranberry bruschetta.
Later for dinner, a delectable buffet served up a variety of entrees including honey balsamic chicken, sorghum glazed pulled pork BBQ, truffle cheddar crusted brussels sprouts, caprese orzo salad, and garlic parmesan mashed potatoes. Sign us up!
The evening ended with a cake pop or two by Nashville Sweets and an adorable rose petal toss send-off.
